In math class, we use maps as scale drawings. We use the scale on the maps to figure out how far apart 2 cities are.
I would personally not use these particular maps in my classroom, as I need ones with different details and the kids haven't yet learned about World War II when they get to me in 7th grade, but there are several good maps that I use. I have the kids do a road trip activity across the United States. They start at Philadelphia and have to go to San Fransisco, stopping at three other cities along the way. They have to figure out the total distance, how many hours/days it would take them. Not only is this a great math lesson, but a great geography lesson as well.

2. First day of school activity: Have students talk about their memories so far of school.
3. Compare and contrast life in the 20's compared to now.
4. Language Arts--have students create their own songs about their school experiences.
